Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Tulsi Gabbard, the newly appointed US Director of National Intelligence, during his visit to Washington, where they discussed strengthening intelligence cooperation between India and the US, particularly in counter-terrorism, cybersecurity, and emerging threats.
PM Modi congratulated Gabbard, a Hindu-American and former Congresswoman, on her confirmation as the country’s top intelligence official. “Met USA’s Director of National Intelligence, @TulsiGabbard, in Washington DC. Congratulated her on her confirmation. Discussed various aspects of the India-USA friendship, of which she’s always been a strong votary,” PM Modi posted on X.
The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, described the meeting as “productive,” emphasizing the importance of intelligence collaboration.
PM Modi arrived in Washington after co-chairing the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris. On Thursday, he is set to hold bilateral discussions with US President Donald Trump at the White House.
Meanwhile, Gabbard was sworn in as Director of National Intelligence at the Oval Office, hours after her Senate confirmation in a 52-48 vote. Attorney General Pam Bondi administered the oath, with President Trump praising Gabbard’s military service and patriotism. A former Democratic Congresswoman from Hawaii, Gabbard has served in the Army National Guard and was deployed three times.
