In a move to foster collaboration and development in the automobile industry, an 18-member delegation from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers visited Sri Lanka this week.

The delegation called on Sri Lanka’s Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, Sunil Handunneththi, and Deputy Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, Chathuranga Abeysinghe yesterday.

In addition, they held meetings with senior officials from the Ministry of Finance, the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka, and the members of the Ceylon Motor Traders Association.

The delegation included representatives from leading Indian vehicle manufacturers across all segments, including commercial vehicles, passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, and three-wheelers.

The delegation also met the Deputy High Commissioner of India, Dr Satyanjal Pandey, and apprised him of the operations of Indian automobile companies in Sri Lanka.

It is notable that Sri Lanka has relaxed the import of cars this year after a gap of almost 4 years. Several Indian automakers such as Tata, Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra and Mahindra have been popular in the island nation.
