The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Agriculture Ministers-level meeting is taking place in Kathmandu today. India’s Ministers for Agriculture, Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Bhutan’s Lyonpo Younten Phuntsh arrived in Kathmandu last evening to attend the meeting.

 

Earlier, the secretary-level meeting was held in Kathmandu to prepare the agenda for the ministerial-level meeting.

 

Ministers for Agriculture of three among seven member states of BIMSTEC are participating in the meeting in person, while ministers of the remaining countries have joined the meeting virtually. Ramnath Adhikari, Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development of Nepal, is presiding over the minister-level meeting.

 

The meeting discusses matters related to the status and challenges of agriculture, and collaboration among the member countries.
