In a significant boost to India’s creative economy, Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Railways, Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis jointly inaugurated the the first campus of the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) at the NFDC premises in Mumbai, marking a significant step toward building India’s capacity in the global creative tech economy.
Addressing the gathering, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav highlighted the government’s vision to empower the youth and advance the creative industries. He further said that this is a big achievement. It will open new opportunities for the youth of our country.
Mr. Vaishnaw revealed that the central government has allocated ₹400 crore for the development of IICT. The institute will offer 17 specialised courses covering diverse areas of the creative industry and will feature strong industry-academia partnerships. Companies like Google, Meta, and Adobe have already tied up with IICT to provide industry-relevant exposure and training.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis lauded the initiative, stating, “Mumbai is known as the entertainment capital of our country. IICT will provide much-needed direction and institutional support to the creative sector.”
Mr. Fadadnavis also emphasised the importance of the Bharat Pavilion, calling it a tribute to India’s rich creative legacy. He announced that the Maharashtra government will contribute ₹150 crore to support the upcoming Waves summit, which is expected to become a flagship global event for the creative industries, to be hosted in Mumbai.
