The Rajya Sabha has resumed discussion on India’s strong, successful and decisive Operation Sindoor in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Participating in the discussion, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar lauded the performance and capabilities of the armed forces and the results have made the country proud during Operation Sindoor.
He said, the intention behind the Pahalgam terror attack is to destroy the economy of Jammu and Kashmir which had returned to normalcy and prosperity after the abrogation of article 370. Dr Jaishankar said, the incident had shocked the country for which there was there was solidarity and sympathy from across the world. He said, such an attack was absolutely unacceptable as it crossed redlines and there had to be severe consequences and accountability of the perpetrators and their supporters.
The Minister said, after the attack, the first decision was taken during Cabinet Committee on Security was to keep the Indus Water Treaty in abeyance until Pakistan irrevocably gives up its support of terrorism. Dr Jaishankar said, the people were told for 60 years that Jawaharlal Nehru’s mistake cannot be corrected but the Narendra Modi government showed that it can be corrected.
He said, India has faced cross-border terrorism since 1947, and blood and water will not flow together. The Minister said that the destruction of Pakistani airfields and videos of funeral of terrorists in Pakistan speak about the success of Operation Sindoor. Dr Jaishankar said, everyone know that Bahawalpur and Muridke are the biggest terrorist centres directed against India and today, both these centres have been reduced to dust.
Dr Jaishankar said, in the last decade, India has been able to put terrorism on the global agenda, be it BRICS, SCO, QUAD or at the bilateral level due to efforts of Prime Minister Modi.
Dr Jaishankar said, Indian diplomacy has successfully got the Resistance Front (TRF), which is proxy of Pakistan-based LeT, declared as terror outfit by the US. He said, India gave a message that it is not open to mediation and it will not accept nuclear blackmail. The Minister said, there was no leader anywhere in the world who asked India to stop its operations.
He said, there was no linkage with trade and no phone calls between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump from 22nd April to 16th June. Dr Jaishankar said, Tahawwur Rana, who was wanted for 26 years, finally has been brought back by the Modi government and today he is facing trials in this country.
Participating in the discussion, N R Elango of DMK said that terrorism either internal or cross border shall not be allowed. He said, the sovereignty of India should not be intrued by any country in any manner that if anybody does so they must be must be taught a lesson appropriately. Dola Sen of TMC and Manoj Jha of RJD also participated in the discussion which is underway.
