Two new judges have been appointed in the Supreme Court today on Wednesday. President Draupadi Murmu appointed Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Alok Aradhe and Chief Justice of Patna High Court Vipul Manubhai Pancholi as judges of the Supreme Court. This appointment was made on the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium, headed by the Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai. The information about these appointments was shared by the country’s Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on the social media platform ‘X’.
Justice Alok Aradhe was born in April 1964. He began his judicial career as an additional judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court in December 2009 and became a permanent judge in February 2011. He also served in the Jammu and Kashmir High Court and was the acting Chief Justice for about three months in 2018. He was then transferred to the Karnataka High Court, where he took over as the acting Chief Justice in 2022. In July 2023, he was appointed Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court and in January 2025, he became the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
At the same time, Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi was born on 28 May 1968 in Ahmedabad and he is a resident of Gujarat. In June 2016, he was appointed as a permanent judge of the Gujarat High Court. After this, he was transferred to Patna High Court in July 2023. Here he was promoted to the post of Chief Justice on 21 July 2025. Both these appointments have further strengthened the structure of the Supreme Court. This will increase the efficiency of the judiciary and will also expedite the disposal of pending cases.
