New Zealand’s Minister for Trade, Investment, Agriculture and Forestry, Todd McClay, praised India’s progress in skill development during a visit to the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Skill Development Centre in Kandivali, Mumbai on Monday. The centre, established under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a global skill hub, offers training in cyber security, hotel management, retail services, white goods and apparel manufacturing.
Mr. McClay reviewed various courses and interacted with trainees, noting that India’s modern training infrastructure and strong industry partnerships are aligned with global standards. He said strengthening ties with India remains a priority for New Zealand and highlighted opportunities for deeper collaboration in education, skills, agriculture, technology and sustainable development. He added that discussions on a balanced Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two nations are progressing well.
Earlier in the day, Mr. McClay and Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the Doctors’ Cricket Tournament under the MP Sports Festival in North Mumbai. Mr. Goyal said the initiative, inspired by the Prime Minister, will help enhance sporting preparation for the 2030 Commonwealth Games and support India’s long-term vision for the 2036 Olympics.
