The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has saturated over 1 lakh 3 thousand schools across India. The Ministry of Electronics and IT said that the exercise has helped around 1.2 crore school students in completing their mandatory biometric update (MBU) in Aadhaar at ease and comfort of their school campuses. It added that at least four thousand machines are in use to execute the ongoing exercise, highlighting that UIDAI is in the process of augmenting this number further to accelerate the pace.

UIDAI rolled out the mission mode MBU drive for school children in September last year. Keeping biometric updated in children’s Aadhaar helps them while carrying out authentication for receiving benefits under various Government schemes and scholarships. It also helps them during registration process for competitive and university examinations like NEET, JEE, CUET and others.
