India and Algeria hold 7th round of Foreign Office Consultations

The 7th round of Foreign Office Consultations between India and Algeria was held in Algiers on 29 March. The meeting was co-chaired by the Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (South) Dr Neena Malhotra and the Secretary General of Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lounes Magramane. Both sides expressed satisfaction over the ongoing cooperation and emphasised the importance of sustained high-level engagement. The two countries agreed to strengthen parliamentary cooperation, with Algeria welcoming the formation of the India-Algeria Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Indian Parliament. Condemning terrorism in all its forms, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to jointly combat the menace. India also appreciated the warm reception extended to the All-Party Parliamentary delegation visiting Algeria after the Pahalgam terrorist attack. MEA informed that the consultations noted the steady growth in bilateral trade, currently valued at around 1.7 billion dollars, and highlighted the potential for expansion in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, higher education, energy, mining, fertilisers and agriculture. Both sides also exchanged views on regional and global issues and reiterated their commitment to close coordination at the United Nations and other multilateral platforms.
