Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu reviewed the country’s preparedness for the adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and implementation of the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA). Chairing a high-level meeting in New Delhi, the Minister reviewed the country’s roadmap for SAF production, blending, carbon accounting and supply chain development ahead of the mandatory phase of CORSIA from 1st January next year.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation said the meeting reviewed the progress of Sustainable Aviation Fuel production projects being implemented by Oil Marketing Companies, certification processes and measures to ensure timely availability of SAF to meet the anticipated demand from 2027. The meeting also discussed the proposed SAF blending roadmap, development of a national SAF Registry with end-to-end traceability, and a robust accounting, monitoring and reporting framework aligned with ICAO requirements.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Naidu said the government is committed to building a globally competitive Sustainable Aviation Fuel ecosystem that supports the growth of the aviation sector while contributing to global decarbonisation efforts. The Minister said the draft Sustainable Aviation Fuel Policy is in its final stages and is being finalised through consultations with stakeholders.
