At least nine Afghan civilians, including women and children, were killed and 11 others injured in Pakistani airstrikes on civilian homes in Afghanistan’s Kunar and Helmand provinces, according to Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid. He said the strikes yesterday also destroyed three residences in the Shultan district of Kunar and Garmser district of Helmand.

The latest attacks come amid an escalation in Pakistani airstrikes across several Afghan provinces. Mujahid said four civilians were killed in strikes in Kandahar, Paktia and Khost on September 24, while three people were killed in attacks in Kunar and Paktika three days earlier.

Condemning the latest strikes as an act of aggression, Mujahid accused Pakistan of using attacks on Afghanistan to divert attention from domestic political and economic problems. He also warned that Afghanistan would give an “appropriate response” to what he described as Pakistani military aggression.
