The outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is reported to have acquired highly sophisticated anti-tank missiles, including the US-made FGM-148-Javelin, increasing Pakistan’s security challenges.

The Javelin missile is a man-portable anti-tank system and has the capability to automatically trap and hit targets like tanks, armoured vehicles, and army installations. However, it is not yet confirmed whether the TTP militants operating in Pakistan are in possession of these deadly missiles, according to reports.

The TTP can use these missiles from anywhere to target their enemies. If confirmed that the TTP has got its hands on the Javelin then it reflects the Taliban government’s failure to secure and protect abandoned US military equipment.

At the time of withdrawal of the US troops from Afghanistan in August 2021, the US left behind billions of dollars worth of military equipment in Afghanistan. Many terror-groups managed to get their hands on a sizeable share of this sophisticated weaponry and are reported to be using it for terror related activities.

The Javelin missile is manufactured in America and costs $2 lakh per unit and is designed to destroy enemy tanks and fortified structures.
