External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar has warned Islamabad on cross-border terrorism, saying New Delhi will strike deep into Pakistan if provoked by terrorist attacks. He asserted that there will be retribution against the terrorist outfits and their leadership in case of barbaric acts like the recent Pahalgam attack.

The Minister stated this in an interview with an American political digital newspaper. Dr. Jaishankar, who is travelling to Europe, said that Pakistan is training thousands of terrorists in the open and unleashing them on India.

In an interview with another newspaper, Dr Jaishankar stressed that China cannot afford ambiguity and double standards in combating terror in the context of its close relations with Pakistan. He added that terrorism is a problem that concerns all. He further said that India and China can improve their relationship step-by-step and have discussed the resumption of direct flights that have been suspended since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Discussing other geo-political issues, the Minister said that India represents the mood of the global South with its call for the suspension of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He noted that India has had discussions with both Moscow and Kyiv, as peace can only be achieved through talks. He also expressed optimism over reaching an agreement with the United States on a trade agreement before the tariff suspension ends on the 9th of next month.
