At least 85 Chinese nationals convicted of cybercrime have been deported from Sri Lanka, Colombo international airport officials said on Friday.
A total of 130 Chinese nationals, including 22 women, were arrested for cybercrime activities by police in the central province town of Kundasale and produced before the magistrate at Teldeniya.
Over 200 mobile phones, more than 100 laptops and IT equipment were seized from their possession.
According to the court order, the seized equipment is to be handed over to the Chinese Embassy in Colombo.
As many as 122 of the 130 were transferred to an immigration detention centre following the court order. Seven of them evaded court.
Eighty-five of them were sent to the airport in five buses and deported on a flight bound for Guangzhou in China, officials said.
