Leaders from the United Kashmir People’s National Party (UKPNP) held a protest in Geneva to raise awareness about the worsening human rights situation in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Gilgit-Baltistan. The demonstration took place outside the United Nations headquarters during the 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC).
UKPNP Chairman Sardar Shaukat Ali Kashmiri and party spokesperson Nasir Aziz Khan were present at the event. They said that people living in PoK and PoGB are suffering due to Pakistan’s oppressive policies. Both leaders accused Pakistan of cracking down on anyone who speaks out against injustice, including political activists, human rights defenders, and journalists.
“Leaders of the National Action Committee in PoGB are jailed without access to basic facilities,” said Sardar Shaukat Ali Kashmiri while speaking to media at the sidelines of the UN session.
