External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar has stressed on enhanced cooperation among nations to deal with the challenges posed by terrorism, economic instability and climate change. He said, these challenges are interconnected, and they transcend national borders. He emphasised on more cooperative approach, transcending the competitive aspects of international politics. The Minister said this while addressing the United Nations Troop Contributing Countries Chiefs’ Conclave in New Delhi.
Dr Jaishankar said that the country has consistently advocated for Justice, Dignity, Opportunity and Prosperity for all society and people. He said the country approaches peacekeeping as a civilizational ethos and sees the world as one family. He also highlighted the country’s faith in multilateralism and international partnerships. The Minister also highlighted that changing geopolitical dynamics, the complexities of world affairs, and the nature of conflicts have all shaped the demands of peacekeeping.
He underscored the need to equip peacekeepers to deal with asymmetric threats, ensure their own safety and deliver on their missions. He said that this would require investing in surveillance systems, protective gear, cyber capabilities and mission preparedness of the highest standard.
