At least nine people have been arrested from across three states on the charges of spying for Pakistan and passing sensitive Indian military information to Pakistani operatives.
Indian authorities launched a nationwide crackdown on suspected Pakistani spies following the Pahalgam terror attack and the recent military tensions between the two countries.
At least four of the arrests were made in Haryana, four in Punjab, and one in Uttar Pradesh. Among those arrested is Jyoti Malhotra, a YouTuber with thousands of followers, who was taken into custody by the Haryana Police in Hisar.
Jyoti Malhotra
Jyoti Malhotra, a YouTuber with thousands of followers, was arrested last week in Hisar by the Haryana Police on charges of allegedly spying for Pakistani agencies.
The 33-year-old travel vlogger, who runs a YouTube channel called ‘Travel with JO’, was interrogated for allegedly sharing sensitive information with the Pakistani side.
Investigators have found that Jyoti was reportedly honey-trapped by an individual named Danish, an employee of the Pakistani High Commission, who is suspected of having links to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
Devendra Singh
Devendra Singh, a 25-year-old postgraduate student from Mastgarh Cheeka village in Kaithal, Haryana, has been arrested for allegedly sharing information with the Pakistan Army and the ISI amid the recent India-Pakistan tensions.
According to PTI, Singh was pursuing a Master’s degree in political science at a college in Punjab.
Police said that Singh had visited Pakistan on a pilgrimage in November last year, where he reportedly came into contact with intelligence personnel.
