Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm and enthusiastic welcome upon his arrival in Auckland, marking the start of his historic two-day visit to New Zealand. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in nearly four decades.
After arriving in Auckland, Prime Minister Modi was received at the airport by New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon. The Indian community gathered in large numbers to greet him. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as people waved the Indian tricolour and chanted “Kia Ora Modi” to welcome him.
Later, Prime Minister witnessed a vibrant celebration of India’s rich cultural heritage during the community welcome in Auckland this evening. In a series of social media posts, the Prime Minister said that the performances showcased the cultures of Punjab and Tamil Nadu, a fusion of Carnatic and Hindustani classical music, and a stirring rendition of Vande Mataram. Mr Modi complimented the diaspora for keeping India’s cultural heritage vibrant across generations and continents and for strengthening the enduring people-to-people bonds between India and New Zealand. The Prime Minister also expressed delight to witness the performance by the Naad Vocal Ensemble. He said music has a unique ability to bring people together, and today’s performance beautifully reflected the warmth and depth of India-New Zealand friendship.
During the visit, the two leaders are expected to discuss ways to further strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, education, technology, and people-to-people ties, reflecting the growing partnership between India and New Zealand.
