To mark the completion of 200 years of Hindi journalism, Communication Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia today released a commemorative postage stamp and first-day cover in honour of the first Hindi Newspaper Udant Martand, in New Delhi. On this occasion, Chairman of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Rambahadur Rai, read out a congratulatory message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In his message, the Prime Minister said that the bicentenary of Hindi journalism is a celebration of India’s consciousness, thought, and public awakening.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Scindia said that the history of journalism is also the history of India. He said that journalism is not merely a profession; it is a movement of national awakening. The Minister also emphasised that times may change, technology may change, and platforms may change, but the fundamental duty of journalism should never change.
A special exhibition has also been organised to depict the 200-year journey of Hindi journalism. The exhibition displayed rare photographs and historical documents related to leading Hindi newspapers, magazines, and pioneering editors.
