According to a report titled Semicon India 2.0 by Ernst & Young Global Limited and the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA), released during Semicon India 2026, India’s semiconductor market is projected to expand more than threefold from nearly 64 billion dollars in 2026 to 200 billion dollars by 2035. The report underscores a critical push toward domestic manufacturing, citing that semiconductor imports rose fivefold from 5.7 billion dollars in FY17 to 30.3 billion dollars in FY25 at a 23 per cent Compound Annual Growth Rate.
India is well-positioned to capitalize on this trajectory thanks to its massive talent pool, currently accounting for nearly 20 per cent of the world’s chip design engineers, and a rapidly expanding broader electronics sector.
The report stressed that, rolling out targeted talent programs will secure the workforce needed for design, fabrication, and packaging. Streamlined approvals and stable regulations are crucial to rapidly scaling domestic chip manufacturing.
