Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov on the sidelines of the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek and reviewed the progress in bilateral relations between India and the Kyrgyz Republic.

The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the India-Kyrgyzstan Strategic Partnership, with discussions focusing on expanding economic and commercial cooperation as well as deepening people-to-people ties.

PM Modi congratulated President Zhaparov on the Independence Day of the Kyrgyz Republic and noted that the occasion gave special significance to the opening of the SCO Summit in Bishkek.

The Prime Minister also congratulated Zhaparov for successfully hosting the 26th SCO Summit and thanked him for his warmth and hospitality.

During the meeting, the two leaders agreed to further enhance economic and commercial cooperation, taking into account the complementarities between the two economies.

They also discussed the growing people-to-people connections between India and Kyrgyzstan, including through student exchanges and cultural collaborations.

PM Modi highlighted India’s strong participation in SCO meetings held under the chairmanship of the Kyrgyz Republic. He said India’s participation reflected the mutual respect, trust and support that characterise the close and longstanding relations between the two countries.

The Prime Minister thanked President Zhaparov for successfully conducting the SCO Summit and for the warm hospitality extended to him during his visit to Bishkek.
