Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Mumbai to attend the India Maritime Week 2025. He will address the Maritime Leaders’ Conclave and chair the Global Maritime CEO Forum. In a social media post, Mr Modi said the conclave is a great forum to build collaborations in the maritime sector and highlight India’s reforms in the same.
Meanwhile, addressing a press conference, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said India’s maritime sector has nearly doubled its port capacity in just 11 years under Mr. Modi’s visionary leadership, proving that India is not just keeping pace, it’s leading the way.
“The second day of India Maritime Week 2025 saw wide-ranging discussions on ports being engines of transformation, maritime security, reviving inland trade and fortifying global supply chains. The states in focus were Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, while Sweden and Norway were the Focus Countries.
The Directorate General of Shipping stall was also inaugurated today, highlighting key initiatives driving growth in maritime education, seafarer welfare and innovation in the shipping sector. Among the numerous MoUs that were signed today, the Paradip Port Authority signed six major agreements worth one lakh, six thousand and 300 crore rupees (1,06,300 Crore Rupees) that are likely to boost its infrastructure and Green Hydrogen projects.
Meanwhile, the port in the spotlight today was the VOC Port in Tamil Nadu. Chairperson of VOC Port Authority, Susanta Kumar Purohit, said the port is being positioned as a future-ready green port due to its strategic location and strong potential for wind energy generation.
