US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will end its nearly four-billion-dollar annual military aid to Israel by the end of this year.

In an interview, Trump said Israel no longer needs the financial assistance, adding that Washington would continue to help the country if required and allow it to purchase American weapons.

The existing ten-year security assistance agreement, signed in 2019, provides Israel with nearly 4 billion dollars annually and is scheduled to continue until September 2028.

Meanwhile, Israeli opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot criticised the announcement, blaming Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the uncertainty surrounding US-Israel relations. Israel has been one of the largest recipients of American military and economic assistance since its establishment in 1948.
