Venezuela’s National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez has said that the death toll after back-to-back earthquakes has risen to 2,954, and more than 16,000 people were injured. He further said that almost 16,000 people had been left homeless. The rescue operation is still underway after the country was hit by the most powerful quakes in over a century.

Meanwhile, Venezuela’s interim President Delcy Rodriguez declared seven days of mourning, saying that the country is heartbroken by the loss of life caused by the devastating earthquakes. Earlier, on the 24th of June, two back-to-back powerful earthquakes of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 hit the South American nation. Multiple structures collapsed in Caracas following the strong shocks, which were felt across a large part of Venezuelan territory.
