External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar joined Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and Foreign Minister DN Dhungyel in launching second phase of international UPI for Bhutanese citizens visiting India. Dr Jaishankar is on a two day visit to Thimpu, Bhutan. In a social media post, he said that together with the use of UPI in Bhutan, this completes two-way UPI-based digital payment connectivity between India and Bhutan.
They also witnessed exchange of MoU on extending the Nehru Wangchuck Scholarship Scheme for higher education by Bhutanese students at Indian institutions. Dr Jaishankar termed this a step forward for India-Bhutan cooperation in education and capacity building.
The External Affairs Minister also handed over 54 ‘Made in India’ electric vehicles to Prime Minister Tobgay. The Minister said India is supporting Bhutan’s advances towards e-mobility and sustainability transport.
Earlier, Dr Jaishankar called on the Bhutan Prime Minister, saying that he deeply values Mr Tobgay’s sentiments for India-Bhutan unique ties of friendship and cooperation. In a social media post, Dr Jaishankar said India stands firmly committed to Bhutan’s progress and prosperity.
