India reaffirmed its commitment to a nuclear weapons-free world and the complete elimination of nuclear weapons through universal, nondiscriminatory and verifiable disarmament. Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs Sibi George, delivered India’s statement at a high-level UN meeting in New York yesterday to commemorate the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.
The Ministry of External Affairs said that Mr. George also reaffirmed India’s unwavering commitment to combating racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance at a UN meeting marking the 25th anniversary of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action at the United Nations General Assembly. He called for concrete, nationally led and internationally coordinated efforts to implement the declaration and, at another side event of UN, highlighted the need for stronger international cooperation to facilitate the return of cultural properties and heritage to their countries of origin.
