Indian Railways has achieved its highest-ever freight loading in October this year, transporting over 145 million tonnes of freight. It has registered a growth of more than eight per cent as compared to the corresponding month last year.

Akashvani correspondent reports that the higher freight loading and increased freight earnings reflect Railways’ efforts towards supporting economic growth and strengthening the country’s logistics sector.

The food grains loading has increased by over 26 per cent, domestic coal by 16 per cent, Clinker by over ten per cent and iron ore by five per cent.

Indian Railways has also stepped up domestic coal transportation by supplying an average of around 470 rakes per day during October this year to meet the increased requirement of power houses.

Passenger mobility has also witnessed steady growth during October this year. Indian Railways carried over 64 crore passengers, compared to around 63 crore passengers during the corresponding month last year.
