Union Minister Pralhad Joshi today assumed charge as the Education Minister. He was given the charge yesterday following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. Mr Joshi also continues to hold the portfolios of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and New and Renewable Energy. Soon after taking charge, he chaired a review meeting of the Education Ministry to assess the implementation of various schemes and key initiatives. Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary and several senior ministry officials attended the meeting.
Later, speaking to the media, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for entrusting him with this responsibility. Mr Joshi said he is currently holding review meetings to gain a comprehensive understanding of the Ministry’s functioning, policies and ongoing initiatives. He added that it is a large and important department, and his immediate priority is to understand Education Ministry’s operations thoroughly before taking forward its programmes and implementing new initiatives.
