The ‘Yuva Aapda Mitra’ scheme has been launched in Uttarakhand. Under this initiative, 4,310 young volunteers across the state will be trained to handle natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and landslides.
Participants include volunteers from NCC, NSS, Nehru Yuva Kendra, and Scouts & Guides. The scheme is being implemented in 11 hill districts of the state.
During the training, volunteers will learn first aid, search and rescue operations, and how to respond to chemical and biological emergencies. Each participant will also receive an emergency response kit and insurance coverage of 5 lakh rupees for a period of three years.
It is believed that these trained youth volunteers will significantly reduce the impact of disasters in the geologically sensitive state of Uttarakhand.
